Decarbonizing Shipping Could Create 4 Million Green Jobs by 2050
A new report by the Global Maritime Forum and Arup suggests that the transition to zero-emission fuels in the shipping industry could create up to 4 million jobs by 2050. This shift would require major investments in renewable energy and hydrogen-based e-fuels, aligning with the International Maritime Organization’s goal of net-zero emissions in the sector by mid-century. The report emphasizes that the decarbonization of shipping offers significant economic and environmental benefits, with the majority of job growth expected in the 2030s.
